A two-platen injection molding machine uses only two main platens, a fixed platen and a moving platen, instead of the three found in toggle machines. This makes two-platen the standard choice when floor space is limited but large molds, high tonnage (typically 500+ tonnes), or deep-draw parts are required. Toggle remains the better value choice for general-purpose production at smaller tonnages.

As a general rule, two-platen becomes the better choice above 500 tonnes, particularly when mold size, mold weight, or floor space constraints make a toggle machine impractical, or when parts require long opening stroke and large daylight relative to machine size.
