DM III Two-Platen

The Backbone of Your Production Line.

The SM-TP-DM III extends Chen Hsong’s DM III multi-material platform to two-platen scale, from 750 to 1900 tonnes across six models. The turntable is powered by an ABB servo motor with a mechanical pin locking mechanism, achieving positioning accuracy of up to 0.005° and eliminating the misalignment and flash that ruin multi-material part aesthetics. A tunable turntable support system, high-durability bronze wear plates, and a rotary table load capacity of up to 16 tonnes carry heavy multi-material molds with zero sag. The two-platen clamping design provides tie-bar spacing up to 1680×1550mm, opening strokes up to 2650mm, and mold thickness up to 1700mm for large, deep multi-material molds.

Modular main and auxiliary injection units from 960 to 5250 combine in horizontal, lateral, and vertical (H/L/V) arrangements to suit the mold and gating, with three or more materials available via optional three- and four-station turntables. A dual-rod split injection design isolates injection forces from platen rotation, preventing seal wear and oil leaks. Changeover between multi-colour and single-colour production is built in through nozzle centralisation and single-colour ejection holes, so one machine covers both jobs. Every model runs a full servo system with a Linux-based 15-inch touchscreen Intelligent Control Unit. Built for automotive headlight and tail-light assemblies, interior trim, appliance panels, fitness equipment, tool boxes, and other large parts where two or more materials meet.

FAQ

01What Is The Difference Between The DMZ III Two-Platen and The DM III Toggle?

Both are multi-material machines built around a servo-driven rotary platen, but they differ in structure and range.

The DM III uses toggle (three-platen) clamping from 168 to 568 tonnes with main and auxiliary injection units in a parallel arrangement, 4 patented rotary platen technologies, and ±0.2% injection accuracy.

The SM-NTP-DMZ III uses two-platen clamping from 550 to 750 tonnes in a back-loading layout, with an independent rotary platen positioned to ±0.005° by servo motor and optical encoder, and a patented toggle-brake mechanism providing larger mold space, longer opening stroke, and a more compact footprint.

Choose the DM III for standard multi-material production up to 568 tonnes; choose the DMZ III Two-Platen for larger parts, heavier molds, or when you need two-platen mold space in a compact back-loading machine.

Two-platen clamping provides larger mold space relative to machine footprint, which is critical for large multi-material molds with rotary platens.

The longer opening stroke accommodates deeper parts, and the optimised ergonomic take-out platform makes part removal and automation integration easier. For multi-material applications above 500 tonnes, two-platen is often the preferred architecture because it avoids the longer machine lengths associated with large toggle designs.

Chen Hsong offers two-platen multi-material machines in two layouts: the back-loading SM-NTP-DMZ III from 550 to 750 tonnes, and the parallel-unit SM-TP-DM III from 750 to 1900 tonnes (/injection-molding-machines/dm-iii-two-platen) for parts beyond this machine’s range.

The DMZ III Two-Platen is designed for large multi-material parts up to 750 tonnes: automotive headlight and tail-light assemblies, large appliance panels, industrial equipment housings, and any multi-colour or multi-material application that requires clamping force above 500 tonnes or large mold space.

Rotary table load capacity up to 5 tonnes supports heavy multi-material mold assemblies, with three or more materials available via optional multi-station turntables. For parts above 750 tonnes, the SM-TP-DM III Two-Platen continues the range to 1900 tonnes.

Chen Hsong provides installation, training, maintenance, and technical support through more than 120 service points, with a professional after-sales team of over 200 specialists, serving customers in 85+ countries.

The DMZ III is supported by dedicated multi-material specialist teams with expertise in rotary platen systems, two-platen clamping, and multi-component process optimisation.
