Packaging injection molding covers thin-wall food containers, lids, caps and closures, cosmetics packaging, PET preforms, industrial containers and in-mold labelling. Cycle times under three seconds are normal here, and yield at speed is what decides whether a part makes money.
High-speed packaging machines reach injection speeds up to 500 mm/s with dry cycles from 1.5 seconds. SPEED covers 128 to 468 tonnes, SPEED-PACK II 206 to 570 tonnes, and SUPER PACK 270 to 430 tonnes for the heavier thin-wall work. IML adds another constraint, since the robot needs mold open time to be short and, more importantly, identical every cycle. That’s a process stability question more than a speed question.
PET needs low-shear plasticising to avoid yellowing and excess acetaldehyde. JM-PET/S2 and JM-PET/H use chrome-plated PET screws built for that, with high-rigidity clamping for large container tools. Caps and closures with a soft liner or a second colour move to multi-material machines, molding both materials in one cycle. Machine data and typical configurations are on the packaging injection molding page.
